can someone please explain to me why cpt america couldnt just land the plane? or jump out with a parachute? or get in an escape pod?

for reference, ive seen the movie twice a while ago, but everytime i think about it, it just kinda frustrates me.
A friend of mine asked this and the best answer I came up with was a mix of the controls could have been compromised during the fight/the cosmic cube messed up electrical stuff and also the plane was filled with explosives. The pods we see before aren’t escape pods, they’re bombs so I can see Steve not wanting to bring them anywhere knew a populated area if there is even a chance they might be set off. As for the parachute, he’s flying over the arctic. I’m not sure how helpful a parachute would have been.
Obviously there are holes in my explanation, but it’s enough that my suspension of disbelief is held and lets me enjoy the film. (I just hope that this was a sincere-ish question and that I don’t make an ass of myself by replying seriously.)
